The competitiveness of a firm is given by its potential and the diagnostic is very important in order to establish the firm’s position on the market.
This paper presents the indicators that determine the competitiveness, and regarding the current policy aiming the increase of the economic competitiveness in Romania. The competitiveness of the firms acting in the field of welding is also, analysed.
The economic environment in which the welding activity evolves and the competitiveness acts for market sharing is briefly reviewed. The competitiveness is largely determined by the qualitative factors, which include the quality standards in the field, the conformity certification and the quality of human resources. Regarding these issues, the paper presents the certification system for welded structures manufacturers, based on EN ISO 3834 standard, developed by the European Welding Federation (EWF). The situation of the certified companies in Romania in the European context and the specialised personnel training at the international level is also, presented.
